Nigerians are everywhere, you’ll find us in London, Toronto, Dubai, Sydney, even the North Pole (probably)! And every day, more Nigerians are jetting off to new destinations in search of better opportunities, adventure, or simply “japa-ing” for greener pastures.

But before you go and enter trouble you didn’t budget for, let’s talk about some of the wildest, most mind-blowing laws from around the world.

These laws will make you ask: Who sat down and thought this was a good idea?!

You don’t want to land in a foreign country and carry embarrassment for Nigeria, so take notes!

1. Don’t Mess with the Pigeons – (Italy)

In Venice, feeding pigeons is illegal! Why? Because these seemingly harmless birds are notorious for damaging the historic architecture.

If you’re caught offering breadcrumbs to a pigeon, you could face a hefty fine, as in police can arrest you because of casually feeding a bird oo.

Imagine dodging police just for feeding a bird or even getting deported! Now that’s wild.

When your mother asks you why you were deported, how would you tell her it was because of a pigeon!

2. No Bubble Gum allowed (Singapore)

You heard right, chewing gum is prohibited in singapore.

In 1992, Singapore officially banned the sale, import, and manufacture of chewing gum under the Control of Manufacture Act.

This decision was made because some coconut heads thought it was fun to stick the bubble gum on walls, elevator buttons, mailboxes and worst of all, the sensors of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train doors.

Vandals would jam the doors with gum, causing costly delays and repairs. The government said enough was enough and they went ahead to ban chewing gums in public!

Next time you’re in singapore, if you like do chakam chakam with your chewing gum, you’ll find yourself in prison straight!

3. Keep your dirty cars at home! (Dubai)

Welcome to Dubai where the streets are so clean and your car is expected to sparkle, and shine lime the morning sun.

leaving your car dirty in public can cost you a fine of AED 500, don’t think it’s a joke, unless you gon’ learn.

Dubai’s authorities don’t play when it comes to aesthetics. If your car looks like it’s been through a lot (which, to be fair, it probably has), and you leave it parked in public, you could get slapped with a warning sticker.

You then have 15 days to clean it up or risk having it impounded and possibly auctioned off.

in Dubai, cleanliness is next to fabulousness. A dusty car is seen as a visual offense, so dirty cars owners, stay away from Dubai in peace!

4. Don’t Forget to Smile – (Milan, Italy)

Imagine waking up in a bad mood, stepping outside, and boom, you’re breaking the law!

In Milan, it’s illegal not to smile unless you’re at a funeral or hospital.

Carry your bad temper and mood swings one side because in Milan, they no too send you.

Just shine your 32, and you’ll be alright.

This was originally an old regulation meant to promote positivity, but it’s rarely enforced today.

Nigerians would struggle with this.
Have you ever tried forcing a smile in Lagos traffic?

5. No Farting in Public – (Florida, USA)

Yes, you read that right. In Florida, passing wind in public after 6 PM on Thursdays is technically illegal.

Oh, we absolutely love this law! Like 20 Nigerians would definitely be going to jail, because this is a normal act. Fart and act like you did nothing! Ah God will judge all of you.

This law is regarded as one of the strangest laws in the world.

We can only imagine what nasty mess prompted this law.

if you ever find yourself in Florida on a Thursday evening… better hold it in and respect yourself.

If you’re traveling soon, do your research! Don’t go and collect fine or embarrass Nigeria because of one funny law.
