Let’s not even sugar coat anything, house rent in Lagos is ridiculously expensive!
It almost feels like you work just to blow it up on Rent! So frustrating.
In case you’re wondering if there are some areas in Lagos where you don’t have to sell your left and right kidney, well, here are some in no particular order:
1. Ikorodu:
If you’ve ever wanted to live in a place where going to the island feels like a pilgrimage, Ikorodu is your spot.
This popular area in Lagos is Known for its affordability when it comes to house rent.
It is quite far from major areas in the city; hence it’s affordability.
For remote workers who love staying indoors and don’t mind not going out, you should try here.
But remember, once you enter Ikorodu, your relationship with punctuality ends. You’ll leave home at 4 a.m. and still arrive late.
2. Abule Egba
This area offers affordable rent and is quite accessible to some major areas in the city.
Not a bougee area, but hey, who cares about bougee when the rent is cheap, right?
Just be ready to explain your location with landmarks like “after the third yellow kiosk, turn left at the green bus.”
3. Agege:
Agege can be quite a busy area, very vibrant community, and most importantly, there are some affordable houses in this area.
It’s also very accessible to major places on Lagos mainland.
so, if you’re in need of a very vibrant area, then you should try Agege.
It might not be all that, but just look on the bright side, you’ll never be bored, and you’ll probably learn five new dance moves just by walking to the bus stop, thanks to all the street parties.
Everything na mindset.
4.Iyana Ipaja:
A densely populated area with many budget housing options and good transport links.
From this area you can get buses going everywhere around Lagos and sometimes, even Ogun state.
I know it doesn’t sound bougee, but yet again, who cares!
5. Ajah (Some parts)
If you’re looking for an affordable area on the island, then you should try Ajah, some parts though.
While Ajah has upscale zones, areas like Sangotedo and Abijo are more affordable.
If you’re on a budget and you want to be on the island, then Ajah is your safest bet.
Don’t sha complain when Titus and panla fish come out of your tap when there’s a heavy downpour.
Anyways, blessing in disguise
6. Mowe & Ibafo (Technically Lagos-ish):
Well, it’s technically Lagos (If you insist). Located in Ogun but spiritually Lagos, Mowe and Ibafo offer quite affordable rent.
The only catch? You’ll need Google Maps, a compass, and divine intervention to find your way back after a night out.
Best to stay wherever you are once it gets late sha
These areas come with cheap houses, but just remember cheap rent comes with character building experiences.
Whether it’s dodging okadas, surviving through hours of traffic, or explaining to your friends why your “Lagos” house is showing Ogun state or Ore on the uber map. You go explain tire!
Las las, you go dey alright my guy
