Merry Men 3: Nemesis (Movie Review)

Ehen, bros, gather round! Your boy just finished watching “Merry Men 3: Nemesis”, and let me tell you, it’s got me feeling like pepper soup on a rainy day – a mix of hot takes and simmering opinions.

First thing first, the good stuff. The action? Omo, na Naija James Bond level! From car chases that had me gripping my seat tighter than Mama Eko’s pound yam, to fight scenes that would make even Area Boys say “calm down”, there was enough “gbosa gbosa” to satisfy any action flick lover. Plus, seeing Ireti Doyle(Dame Maduke) when she tried to run away with the merry men’s money but got caught. Now that’s pure Nollywood gold, I tell you. The woman commands the screen like she owns it, her villainy dripping like palm oil.

But hold on, before you use your precious data and download, let’s talk. The story, bros, it could use some Suya spice. Felt a bit recycled from the last movie, you know, revenge plot, good versus evil, same old same old. Don’t get me wrong, the message about fighting for what’s right is there, but it landed softer than Agege bread. Plus, some scenes dragged longer than sewing thread, making me reach for my phone more times than I care to admit.

Speaking of characters, the Merry Men themselves felt a bit…well, merry-go-roundish. Like they were just going through the motions instead of truly shining. Amaju still the ladies’ man, Ayo the brooding leader, but where was that spark, that Naija hustle we saw in the earlier films? Even Williams Uchemba’s comedic relief, normally on point, felt a bit forced this time around.

Shoutout to the soundtrack though! Afrobeats banging, pidgin slang flying – it captured the Naija vibe perfectly. Made me want to jump up and do legwork right there in public (luckily, I resisted the urge).

Overall, “Merry Men 3: Nemesis” is a popcorn flick with potential that didn’t quite reach its peak. Great action, strong performances from some (Doyle!), but the story and characters needed a little more Nollywood magic. If you’re looking for a fun, action-packed Naija movie experience, go for it. Just don’t expect an Oscar contender. Remember, this is my opinion, wetin you think? Let’s chop knuckles in the comments and share our own takes on the film!
