A month after Empire actor, Jussie Smollett, was arrested for faking a hate crime on himself and filing a false police report, the 16 felony count charges leveled against him have been dropped. In addition, Jussie's record will be expunged as the case has been sealed.
Although the top deputy for Cook County State’s Attorney suggested the charges were dropped as part of a deal with Smollett, his lawyers denied any deal was struck.
In a statement, Smollett's attorney said, "Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment,"
In a brief press conference, Smollett thanked all his fans and maintained that he had been "truthful and consistent on every single level since day 1". He rounded off the speech saying he'd continue to fight for the justice, equality, and betterment of the marginalized.
