The #EndSars campaign, which spread across the internet in 2018 with people calling upon the government to scrap the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), has been re-ignited in 2019.
The campaign was re-kindled following the death of Kolade Johnson, a husband, and father, who was needlessly and brutally killed by trigger-happy and power-drunk members of the squad.
According to reports, Kolade Johnson was hit by a stray bullet while leaving a football viewing center. Nigerians have called Kolade's death a murder and are furious with the government for breaking the promise earlier made about re-structuring SARS.
In August, while President Muhammadu Buhari was on vacation abroad, Osinbajo called for the reorganization of SARS but quite obviously, no action took place towards the reorganization.
Many celebrities have now come out with their hashtags #EndSars except one who refuses to use the hashtag.
Adesua Etomi likened SARS to a tree producing rotten fruits and has asked that the government chop it down.
SARS can just decide to walk the streets of this country, kill anybody and get away with it? Are you freaking kidding me? What the hell is going on? How is this a country...that has a government?#endsars #justiceforkola— Adesua Etomi-Wellington (@AdesuaEtomiW) April 1, 2019
Femi Anikulapo Kuti is strongly following the case and inisits that justice must be brought to Kolade's family
Justice must be swift and must serve as an immediate deterrent to senseless police brutality and extrajudicial killings. https://t.co/YBGZCQJXmf— Femi Anikulapo-Kuti (@Femiakuti) April 2, 2019
Falz has been speaking on this issue since the release of his album 'Moral Instruction' and they just keep proving him right.
So called police killing young people, abruptly ending our dreams and ambitions. How many more lives are we going to lose?— #MoralInstruction (@falzthebahdguy) April 1, 2019
Simi, who is quite vocal about governance in Nigeria has spoken again and this time, she is fed up
An innocent person dying because of the recklessness of an organization that only exists cos of lack of value. They do Not care. At all! I'm actually fed up. I'm tired. @MBuhari pls let someone pay for this. Pls. They can't keep doing this to YOUR people and getting away with it.— Simi (@SympLySimi) April 1, 2019
While the #EndSars campaign is making a re-appearance on various timelines of both celebrities and their fans, there is one celebrity that does not want to use the hashtag or even re-tweet it. He has warned everyone from hitting him with the hashtag.
Burna Boy cannot be bothered with the hashtag because what he really wants is to throw physical punches and until everyone is ready to stand up to fight, you can miss him with the hastag, #EndSars
