Our parents walked so we could… quit toxic jobs and soft-life in peace.
They endured being shouted at, underpaid, and overworked, all in the name of “loyalty” or “I don’t want to lose my job.”
But this generation? We’re not our parents, abeggg
We’ve seen the light and we are rewriting the work culture rulebook with audacity and small sense. We chose our peace of mind over paycheck-induced hypertension.
Here’s how Gen Z is shaking the office tables:
1. “My Boss Shouted at Me” Era Has Expired
Gone are the days when you could insult someone’s entire lineage and they’d smile through it because “oga is talking.”
Wooo, we’re not our parents that endured nonsense from “oga.”
You raise your voice, HR will hear about it before lunchtime. Simple, it’s not hard.
Respect is mutual.
2. No Growth? No Stay.
If after 6 months we’re still earning “transport fare,” we’re out.
You think we came here to decorate the payroll?
Our parents stayed 10 years waiting for promotion. We stay 6 months, maybe 12 if we like you.
We move faster than NEPA light when rain falls.
If there’s no career growth or salary increment, it’s not “loyalty,” it’s emotional damage.
3. Flexibility Is Our Love Language
Remote work, hybrid work, flexible hours, give us or forget it.
You can’t call us on Saturday morning without prior notice to come to the office and still expect us to smile. Are we witches?
Do we look like our uncles in 1998?
Gen Zs value rest the way old CEOs value meetings.
4. Dress Codes Are Suggestions, Not Commandments
Every day suit and tie? Who e dat?
We’ve replaced suits with sneakers and comfort.
Unless you’re in banking or law, business casual is the new corporate.
As long as we look neat and smell nice, abeg leave us like that.
5. Mental Health Over Monthly Madness
You can’t be paying small money and stressing our head on top.
Toxic environments, overwork, and zero empathy? Nah.
We love peace. We love balance. We love soft life.
We’ll pick our sanity over your “company culture” every time.
We’re not lazy; we just refuse to die in silence like our parents did in the name of “job security.”
Gen Z is the generation of “remote jobs,” “soft life,” and “healthy work environments.”
Call it rebellion, but honestly, it’s just choosing sanity over suffering.
Our parents suffered, we’re not continuing the family tradition.
