Welcome to Lagos, where one minute it’s sunny and the next, the clouds are crying like they just got dumped at a BRT terminal. You step out thinking the weather is great, and next thing, you’re drenched and rethinking all your life choices.

But fear not, my fellow survivor. Whether you’re dodging potholes that double as mini rivers or fighting for your wig’s life, here are a few golden rules for surviving this chaotic season Lagos-style because in Lagos, the rain no get respect for your drip..

1. Umbrella: Your First Love, Your Ride-or-Die

This is not the season to be gallivanting like you’re covered by divine dry weather.
Let me just tell you now, your umbrella is no longer an accessory, it’s your first love. Clutch it like your PVC on election day. Protect it like your salvation.

In fact, don’t even call it “umbrella” again, address it with reverence “My Beloved.” The weather is unpredictable, and one drizzle can humble even the strongest lace frontal.
Whether foldable or fancy, black or Barbie-pink, it’s not aesthetics we’re doing, it’s survival.

2. Cuddle Season Is Now in Session

This is your sign to stop forming. There’s no medal for dying of cold alone. So you had better pick that phone and beg your babe or your bobo to come over.
Yes, beg. Because this weather has no respect for pride. One minute you’re strong, next thing you’re wrapped like a shawarma under your duvet, whispering, “God when?” You know cold does not ask if you’re emotionally available before it slaps you.
Renew that cuddle bundle. Let body warmth do what PHCN cannot.

3. Ditch your Designer Shoes for Crocs and Rubber Shoes

All these pointed heels and sleek loafers? Not in this Lagos rain. This is not the time to be stylish because Lagos flood has plans for you.
It’s time to bring out your rubber shoes, crocs, and good anti-slide bathroom slippers (make you no go fall break teeth.)

Abegggg, respect yourself.
Because no matter how much you earn, once your expensive shoe starts flapping like it’s clapping for the rain, you’ll know humility.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

4. Stock Up on Provisions Like a Proper Adult

You think cuddling is the only comfort you need? Think again.
Imagine being stuck indoors, rain pouring, and no Milo in the cupboard? No bobo? No bae? E go do you like a dream.
Stock up on provisions, because cold + hunger = premium tears.
Get that Milo, that Peak milk, those cabin biscuits, Golden Morn (we don’t judge), and maybe even indomie for good measure. Because there’s nothing as tragic as rain beating your roof and your tummy at the same time.
Forget body heat, hot beverages will hug your soul deeper than some relationships.

  1. Hoodies Over Hot Looks, Because Your Life Depends on It

“My outfit won’t go with a hoodie.” Okay, suffer then.
This is not Milan Fashion Week. This is Lagos.
Always have a sweater or hoodie handy because there’s always that one colleague who thinks switching on the AC in this cold is proof of luxury living.

Your fashion sense won’t matter if you’re freezing like a bowl of stew in a deep freezer.
Protect your health. That slay can wait.

In Conclusion My Guy, You Either Dress for the Rain or Be Disgraced by It

This Lagos rainy season no dey smile. But if you plan ahead, dress smart, and cuddle with sense, you will survive this season.

So carry that umbrella, wear your crocs with pride, sip your hot beverage like you’re in a romcom, and for heaven’s sake, don’t let the rain catch you slacking.
You’re in Lagos. And here, the weather waits for no one.
