Welcome to Ogbon Sodiq Vol. 1, a series where we respectfully drag those who are doing too much… while knowing too little.
Popularized by Asake in his hit song “Organise”, the phrase isn’t a compliment, it is a phrase for calling out people who think they are always five steps ahead, while knowing too little.
That One Guy Who Thinks He’s Streetwise (but is just loud)
You know him.
That guy in every friend group who acts like the unofficial Alaye-in-Chief.
The one who talks like he was raised in the trenches but went to secondary school in Magodo.
He claims to know all the koro in the adugbo aka “shortcut master,” “street plug,” “sharp guy.”
But deep down, he doesn’t know kankan. (pardon my yoruba *wink wink*)
And today, we are calling them out with our full chest.
The Guy Who’s Loud, But Not Sharp
This guy’s mouth moves faster than Google Maps.
He knows where you can get “the real deal” on phones, sneakers, perfume, second-hand steering wheels, and even jollof rice with “that smoky flavour.”
But somehow, all his connections end in disappointment.
He will say “Make we no go that mall o, I sabi one guy for Shitta. E dey sell the original version for ₦10k.”
You follow him… next thing, you are trekking under sun, dodging potholes, and walking into a cramped shop that smells like engine oil and regret only to see that same item is sold for ₦14,500 and no warranty.
Alaye, Calm Down
This guy doesn’t just talk, he oversells.
He knows one aboki that fixes phones in 5 minutes.
One tailor that sews like Gucci
One plug that can deliver at “half price.”
But when it’s time to show receipts? Everything is “no be like that” or “he no dey today.”
You, on the other hand, are left with sore legs, wasted data, and a story that touches the marrow.
He’s Not Wicked, He’s Just Dey Overtrust
To be fair, he means well. He really believes he knows people. But he doesn’t ask questions, he doesn’t confirm prices.
He just talks like street smarts is his birthright and ends up getting showed shege for free
Conclusion: Street Smart ≠ Street Loud
True street wisdom isn’t about knowing how to talk fast or name-drop area boys.
It’s about accuracy. Precision. Knowing when to speak and when to chill.
So next time Mr. Shortcut says, “Follow me, I sabi road,” Tell him to koshi danu. As in, relax. We see you. Your smartness is loud, not deep.
Because Ogbon Sodiq will lead you astray with full confidence and still say, “No vex, na so I remember am.”
