Ridiculous Excuses People Give for Cheating

The other day, I was at the salon getting my hair done when my hairdresser and another lady were gisting about something that sounded like it was straight out of a bad Nollywood plot. Apparently, a friend of theirs got dumped by her boyfriend because, wait for it, she refused to have sex with him before marriage. Mind you, this was something they had already discussed, and he agreed to wait till their wedding night. But guess what? She later caught him cheating, and when she confronted him, he flipped the script and said it was her fault. As in, he literally blamed her for his decision to cheat. Madness!

Let’s be real, people come up with the most ridiculous excuses to justify cheating. Some of them are so wild, you almost want to applaud the creativity. Almost.

“It didn’t mean anything.”

Oh, so you just happened to fall into someone else’s bed by accident? Just vibes and zero accountability. This excuse is so common, it should be copyrighted by unserious people worldwide.

“I was drunk.”

Blaming alcohol is the oldest trick in the book. Unless you were so drunk you forgot your own name, you definitely knew what you were doing.

“You weren’t giving me enough attention.”

So instead of communicating like an adult, you decided to cheat like a goat in heat? Got it.

“It just happened.”

What are you, a victim of a cheating spirit? Did you trip and fall into someone else’s relationship? Please be serious.

“You changed.”

Newsflash: people grow. If your partner became more focused, got closer to God, or simply matured, and you couldn’t handle it, say that. Don’t act like they became a monster overnight.

“It was just physical.”

Somehow, people think separating emotions from actions makes it better. Whether it was physical, emotional, or both; betrayal is betrayal.

“I was trying to get over you.”

If you were really trying to move on, you would have done so respectfully, not by sampling another person like suya.

“You weren’t always available.”

So now it’s a race to see who can disappoint who first? If someone is busy working or handling life’s responsibilities, that’s not an invitation to cheat.

“It’s just what men do.”

This one deserves jail time. Cheating is not in the DNA of any gender. It’s a choice. A selfish one.

“I didn’t think you’d find out.”

Ah, so if you weren’t caught, it would have been okay? The audacity is doing backflips.

The truth is, cheating is not a mistake, it’s a decision. And when people start blaming everyone else but themselves, it just shows a lack of accountability. No one forced your hand. If you’re not ready to commit, leave the relationship instead of doing spiritual gymnastics to defend bad behavior.

Some even blame the devil like he personally left hellfire to whisper “go and cheat” into their ears. Please. At this point, even the devil is tired of taking the blame for people’s nonsense.

Because at the end of the day, nothing justifies betrayal. No matter how creative or demonic the excuse sounds.
