January has arrived very loudly.
And if you’re reading this with one eye open and one account balance closed, welcomeeee.
December really dealt with you.
You flexed your 13th-month salary on oblee.
Concerts, hangouts, just name it, you were signing attendance.
Now tell me why January showed up and you suddenly realized you didn’t even put money aside for transport.
As how nau??
How did you plan enjoyment but forget movement?
There’s Spending… and Then There’s Reckless Spending
Let’s be realistic.
It’s one thing to spend. It’s another thing to spend without sense.
You told yourself, “It’s December, I deserve it.”
And you were right. You did.
But did you deserve to wake up in January calculating how many days garri can last?
That’s the part we didn’t discuss.
The Blame Game Has Started
Now that the money is gone, somebody must answer.
Now your time of reckoning has started, you’re looking for who to blame.
Suddenly, it’s, “Nigeria is hard” or “The economy” or “Bad luck” or “My village people”
But even your village has denied involvement.
Because they were not there when you were screaming lyrics at the top of your lungs at that concert.
They did not force you to buy that extra outfit.
They did not say “add small champagne.”
This Is Not an Attack. I See You.
Before you get defensive, relax.
This is not an attack.
This is empathy.
I just want to let you know that I see you.
I understand you.
December was sweet. January is bitter.
But know that empathy will not pay your bills.
Understanding will not refill your wallet.
This is a full-blown Sapa January experience, and you are deep inside it.
Hold Yourself. You’re Not Alone.
If it makes you feel better, you’re not the only one.
Sapa January is very democratic, it does not discriminate.
People are surviving on vibes, hope, and “God will do it.”
And somehow, they always do.
You will survive too.
One way or another.
January will pass.
Your balance will recover.
