And it’s okay, really. You’re just not on the RSVP list. Yet.

There’s this popular saying, “Soft life or nothing” by people who have made it their life mission to attract and not chase (you know what I mean, winks). But the way things are going for some of us in the other category, it’s looking like “soft life or we go rugged am like that.”

Let’s face it, this soft life we’re all shouting upandan? It’s not soft-ing for everybody.

You’re waking up by 4:30 AM everyday, using cold water to bathe so that sleep will disappear from your eyes sharp-sharp in order to catch the first danfo that leaves for the island at the park, but somehow, you’re scrolling through Instagram by 11 AM, liking photos of that influencer eating seafood in Bora Bora and captioning it “Hard Work and consistency.” You’ll pause, look at your own life, and whisper to yourself: “This 9-5 that you’re doing is already enough hard work, and you’re consistent at showing up at your desk”

You too want to be pampered na.

You want to eat seafood by the lake while sipping mimosa, you want to eat pasta that isn’t concoction, but here you are, relying on the cafeteria’s food that is bland, and if you’re lucky, you get fried titus in your rice instead of the usual panla. But alas, your account balance is still quoting Psalm 23:1 “I shall not want,” but wanting has become your vision and mission statement.

Now, I’m not saying soft life is a scam. It’s real. In fact very real. But it requires funds. And not just any kind, I’m talking about intentional money. The kind that doesn’t disappear after paying your rent, black tax, and your monthly subscriptions.

So when you see someone living the life and you start feeling like God forgot your résumé, abeg breatheeeeee. Maybe your own version of soft life is still doing press ups.

But one thing we must admit? Soft life no be for everybody, for now.

And that’s okay.

Because one day, when the money comes, and the HR is asking for a quick update by 7PM on a Friday, you’ll simply reply, “Sorry, it’s the weekend. Can I revert on Monday morning?”
