An Open Letter to Harmattan
Dear Harmattan,
When i was a child, I always looked forward to you. I had no knowledge of times and seasons, but you reminded me that my favourite season of the year, Christmas was right around the corner.
As the years went by, you began to drift away slowly, making me lose touch of the whole Harmattan season.
Dearest Harmattan, are you pissed off? Did we Nigerians do something wrong? Talk now or forever hold your peace abeg…you’re now beginning to show yourself too much.
This is November and still we’re searching for harmattan. Harmattan, where art thou?
It’s not like i’m shouting at you or anything. I can never do such a thing!
I’m ready to have my lips broken, and my skin looking all crusty and dry.
I miss the familiar wooden smell that envelopes the air when you’re around, waking up to a very bad sore throat and my hair standing as if I just had an electric shock.
Please, just come around and stop this constant rain in November!!!
We Nigerians humbly anticipate your response.
Cold regards,
Cynthia at Kraks & Nigerians.
