Folagade Banks’ Movie Premiere That Summoned Every Bride in Lagos

1 min

Folagade Banks didn’t just premiere a movie on Wednesday, he staged a second wedding. A Mama Deola Wedding Story already holds the record for Nollywood’s biggest wedding scene ever filmed, over 600 cast and extras, 20 hours on set — and instead of resting after that, Banks made “wedding couture” the red-carpet dress code too.

So, Lagos got two weddings in one week. Neither had an actual groom.

The assignment was understood at gunpoint.

Kate Henshaw arrived angelic enough to upstage the bride nobody could name, Hilda Baci showed up looking ready to cater her own reception between courses.

Toyin Abraham served bouquet-catching energy like she had a backup ceremony booked for the following morning. Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji and Mo Bimpe, Mercy Aigbe, Stan Nze, Uche Ogbodo, and BBNaija’s Phyna and Imisi all turned up in full bridal-and-groom fit for a movie about someone else’s wedding.

Here’s the part nobody’s saying out loud: an entire red carpet of single Nigerian celebrities showed up dressed for marriage faster than most Nigerian relationships move in two years. Zero rings, Zero proposals, Just gowns, veils, and tuxedos, all in service of a streaming date.

If commitment issues had a red carpet, this was the group photo.

Give Banks his credit, though.

What started as Mama Deola, a comedy skit character, is now an executive production with a 600-person wedding sequence and a fashion-parade premiere strong enough to trend before the movie even streamed!
