Fashion operates in cycles, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that nothing ever truly disappears, it just waits for the perfect time to make a grand comeback.

Every decade brings new trends; every generation reshapes tradition to their own unique taste.

Nigerian fashion operates like a circle, what was popular yesterday will always find a way back into wardrobes tomorrow.

1. The Return of Baggy Clothes

Once a fashion staple of the ‘90s and early 2000s, baggy jeans and oversized shirts have made a massive resurgence.

Back in the day, artists like Plantashun Boiz, Tuface. Eedris Abdulkareem and even our favourite Nollywood university boyfriends popularized the relaxed, loose-fitting style.

Today, Gen Z fashionistas have embraced baggy jeans again, pairing them with crop tops, sneakers, and retro accessories.
They’re now even calling it “Munm’s Jeans” wait, whose mum?

If you do not have a pair of mum’s jean in your collection’ then you do not know what’s up.

What was once considered outdated is now trendy again, showing that comfort and swag never go out of style.

2. Ankara Prints Are Bigger Than Ever

You remember how your mother used to practically beg you to wear Ankara to church on Sundays?
Sometimes you’d even refuse to wear the same Ankara with your Siblings, now look at you, comfortably rocking the same Ankara pattern with complete strangers!

Ankara fashion is bigger and even better!
Ankara has always been a Nigerian fashion staple, but now, designers are taking it even further.

What used to be traditional attire is now being turned into modern streetwear, jumpsuits, corset gowns, two-piece sets.

Celebrities are rocking Ankara on international stages, proving that African prints are no longer just for cultural events but for global fashion dominance.

Even luxury brands have started incorporating Ankara inspired designs into high-end collections.

Ankara fashion can never die in Nigeria!

3. Vintage Sunglasses & Accessories

Remember the tiny sunglasses from the late ‘90s? The chunky gold chains from Nollywood’s golden era? They’re back, and they’re making waves!

Those glasses you’d beg the doctor never to give you, because your classmates would call you a nerd, are the same glasses you’re casually strolling into stores to get

Pearl earrings, beads, and chunky jewelry are no longer “throwback”, they’re statement pieces again.

Even those old mobile flip phones are making an appearance as stylish tech accessories, who would’ve thought?

4. Corsets and Fitted Silhouettes

Corset-style fashion has come a long way from Victorian era dresses, now, it’s dominating Nigerian weddings and party outfits.

Every young person wants to be snatched till they can’t breathe! who cares! that waist must go from 38 to 24 by fire by force.

The corset fashion even existed before we were born, now look at us borrowing fashion tips from the 50’s and 60’s.

5. Bell-Bottoms & Wide-Leg Pants

Gen-z Baddies come forward!
Ini Edo, Genevieve, Omotola, Rita Dominic and our other Nollywood superstars walked so that you guys could run! so when you’re feeling fly in those pants, pay homage to the originators of Gen Z fashion.

Flared trousers were a hit in the ‘70s, made famous by disco dancers and retro icons. Today, they’re everywhere again, like they never left.

Nigerian men and women are rocking wide-leg pants, pairing them with crop tops, tailored blazers, or casual tees.

Even designers are bringing them into corporate fashion, making them stylish alternatives to regular office trousers.

With these few points of mine, i hope i’ve been able to convince and not confuse you that, fashion never dies, it simply waits for the right moment to return!
