Every December, we talk about Detty December, concerts, and enjoyment. But the real heroes of the season? They’re not on stage or at the beach, they’re behind the scenes, sweating, cooking, and hustling. While some people are chilling with jollof rice and party rice, others are out here doing the Lord’s work.

Let’s give them their flowers, abeggg.

1. The Aunties Who Cook for the Whole Compound

You see those aunties that wake up by 5 a.m. to start cooking? They are the backbone of every December.
They’ll cook for the whole family, visitors, and even random neighbours that “just came to say hi.” From frying meat to shouting “don’t touch that pot yet!” These women carry December on their backs.

If you’ve ever eaten rice you didn’t contribute to, go and hug that aunty now.

2. The Delivery Riders

God bless every dispatch rider navigating Lagos traffic in December heat.
These guys deserve medals.
Rain or shine, traffic or no traffic, these guys are zooming through potholes and danfo madness just to bring you your shawarma and Christmas gifts.
If your rider tells you, “I’m almost there,” just know he’s still at Third Mainland Bridge, praying for strength.

3. The Tailors Who Actually Delivered

Ah yes, the rare gems.
Because we know their mates.
Every December, tailors start promising “come back tomorrow” till it becomes January. So if your tailor actually gave you your clothes before Christmas day, please, appreciate them and hold them tight.
They’re not common.

4. The Electricians and Gen Guys

You see those men fixing wires and generators during Christmas when NEPA decides to play hide and seek?
Real ones. Without them, your Christmas would’ve been pure silence and mosquitoes.

5. The Parents

Let’s not forget the real MVPs of every holiday, parents.
They’ll be tired but still smiling just to make the family happy.

If you can, say “thank you” this year. They deserve it.

December isn’t just about parties and Detty vibes. It’s about people, the ones who make the season bright without ever asking for attention.
So, this year, before you post “Merry Christmas” with your fine picture, take a moment to thank the real MVPs.
They’re the reason Christmas feels like amazing.
