7 Things That Can Vex You for No Reason

4 min

There are things that happen and, technically, nothing has happened.

Nobody insulted you.
Nobody stole from you.
Nobody broke your heart.

But somehow, your whole mood has changed.

You were perfectly fine five minutes ago. Then somebody did one small thing and suddenly you’re wondering why humans were invented.

Here are some completely unnecessary things that can vex you for absolutely no reason.

1. Someone Calling You When They Could Have Texted

Why are you calling me?

WHAT HAPPENED?

And the person says:

“Nothing, I just wanted to ask you something.”

As how nau???

It’s now worse when you’re not even close to the person and it’s probably now a talking stage.

You have successfully increased my heart rate for a question that could have been “Have you eaten?”

Please text next time.

2. Buying White Cast Sunscreen

You checked the reviews.

You asked questions.

You specifically looked for one that said “no white cast.”

You trusted the brand. You trusted the influencer. You trusted the reviews.

Then you apply the sunscreen and look in the mirror.

Your face is whiter than FUFU.

Not even regular white. This one has decided to leave a visible layer of evidence on your face.

You start rubbing it in. Nothing.

You add more moisturizer. Somehow, it gets worse.

Now you’re standing in front of the mirror wondering if you should go out looking like this or simply cancel all your plans and stay indoors.

The most annoying part is when someone tells you, “It’s not that bad.”

Please, don’t gaslight me. I can see myself, my eyes are working perfectly fine.

3. ATM Not Dispensing Cash

This one is especially painful when you deliberately planned for it.

You have cash in your account, so you don’t bother looking for a POS. After all, your bank is reliable. You have used that ATM several times before and everything has always worked.

You get there.

Insert card.

Enter PIN.

Select withdrawal.

Wait.

Then:

“Unable to dispense cash.”

Excuse me?

So why did you allow me to complete the entire process before telling me?

Now you have to find another ATM, and if you’re unlucky, the next one is also not dispensing.

At this point, you start wondering why you didn’t just use POS in the first place and gave yourself the yeye stress.

And don’t even get me started on when you finally find another ATM and there’s a queue of 17 people standing in front of you.

All because you trusted your bank.

4. When Your Internet Suddenly Starts Misbehaving

Nigerian network has a special talent for knowing when something is important.

You can spend two hours scrolling through TikTok without a problem.

Instagram? Working perfectly.

WhatsApp? Messages flying.

Then the moment you need to send an important document:

Network disappears.

You refresh.

Nothing.

You turn airplane mode on and off.

Nothing.

You move closer to the window.

Still nothing.

You start walking around the room with your phone in the air like you’re trying to communicate with satellites.

Then you finally get one bar.

You rush to send the document.

“Sending…”

And it stays there.

For eternity.

Suddenly, the same network that was giving you HD videos five minutes ago has decided that your 2MB document is too much to handle.

5. Going for an Event and They Didn’t Share Food

This one can ruin an entire day.

You hear there is a lunch.

You dress up.

You leave your house hungry because why would you eat when you’re going to an event where food is obviously going to be served?

You get there.

You sit down.

You clap.

You listen to speeches.

You take pictures.

You even participate in the activities.

Then the event starts winding down.

No food.

You wait a little longer.

Still nothing.

Not even puff-puff.

At this point, you start looking around to see if everyone else is also hungry.

Someone finally says, “Thank you for coming.”

Coming where?

To suffer?

Now you have to carry your hungry self back home while regretting every life decision that brought you to that event.

The real lesson?

Never attend an event on an empty stomach because “they will definitely share food.”

6. When Someone Touches Your Phone While You’re Using It

Not even because you’re hiding anything.

You just don’t like it.

Why are you touching my screen?

I was literally using it.

And the worst part?

They don’t even say anything.

They just start scrolling.

Oga, return my phone.

7. Someone Eats the Food You Were Saving

This is not just food.

It is your last plan.

You bought it or kept it specifically because you knew you would want it later.

Maybe you weren’t hungry yet.

Maybe you wanted to eat it after work.

Maybe you were saving the best part for yourself.

Then you return home.

You open the fridge.

Gone.

You ask:

“Who ate my food?”

And someone casually says:

“Oh, I ate it. I thought you weren’t going to eat it.”

You thought?

Based on what evidence?

Was there a written statement somewhere saying “I don’t want this”?

Now you’re expected to just accept it because apparently food left in a shared fridge automatically becomes community property.

And the worst part?

They have no idea why you’re vexed.

Closing Remarks

Sometimes, it’s not the big things that ruin your mood.

It’s the tiny, unnecessary inconveniences that catch you when you’re already tired, hungry, broke or simply minding your business.

And suddenly, you’re irritated for the next three business days.

These little things may not be serious enough to start a fight over, but they can definitely vex you.
