There was a time a Nigerian pregnancy announcement was simple. The belly grew, the loose outfits came out, and everyone could see clearly that yes oooo, Mrs. A did ‘mummy and daddy’, now she’s pregnant.
Then social media happened, and the pregnancy reveal pictures got spicier and more fashionable!
By the early 2010s, Nigerian blogs were already running roundups of celebrity baby bump photos, and by the mid-2010s, some stars were sharing full maternity shoots.

What started as a few glamorous photos for the timeline slowly became the new way to tell the world, “We’re expecting.”
Today, it’s practically a tradition. We have fallen in love with this style of announcement, and too spoilt to have it any other way.
The beautiful part is that we the online family are ever ready to receive these beautiful pictures online!
Years from now, a child will scroll through the family album, find a photo of their mother in a gown with a ten-foot train, and ask, “Mummy, was this a wedding?” And she will smile and say, “No. That was you.”
How beautiful!
