Lola did not believe in Juju or witchcraft all through her life, but last night, she witnessed it in 3D, she was a participant, in fact it all felt like a movie to her, but it was real! As real as day.
It was no news to Lola that she was the most hated girl in the office, from one nasty scandal to the other.
Some even claimed that she had an attitude, a nasty one at that, but she herself knew it was just pure jealousy and if anything, she was doing the job she came here to do and doing it pretty well.
She entered the office and greeted her colleagues, but the responses were cold. Lola didn’t mind; she set up her workspace for the day and started to do her thing.
At lunch time, everyone went off to get food, but Lola wasn’t included, she felt ostracized like a leper in the organization, in fact she didn’t even want to eat anymore, she was more than determined to make sure they hated her more by constantly being the best and doing what none of them could possibly do.
“Ahn ahn, Lola you didn’t go out for lunch?” Her boss asked concerned
“No sir, I’m alright, I have a lot to work on” She responded
Her boss looked at her with so much admiration, wondering how a Gen z could be so focused and active at her work. He thought all they ever did was to dance on Tiktok and try out different lip combos.
Lola and her boss spent some extra time talking to each other before her colleagues walked in.
She knew the thoughts they had in their minds, and she knew the next rumour that was about to fly. she could even picture the headline “OMOLOLA SLEEPS WITH THE CEO OF…”
Lola got home late that night, at almost 11, as Lagos state traffic held her on third mainland bridge for close to two solid hours, she was exhausted.
She took off her shoes from the door, dropped her bag somewhere
flimsy and went straight to the bathroom for a quick shower.
As she showered, she felt a foggy atmosphere in the bathroom, like she was in a thick forest, but she brushed it off claiming it was just the steam from the steaming water she was using.
She took her mind away from it and tiredly finished having her bath.
She thought about what happened in the bathroom but brushed it off and went to bed quickly.
Lola wasn’t a believer of the supernatural, God, Hell, heaven, paradise, juju, all those things were just hilarious to her.
She got up in the middle of the night sweating profusely, her room had that fog she had felt in the bathroom, only this time, it felt like she could see four people standing in the fog.
She cleaned her eyes properly to be sure she wasn’t dreaming but the fog and the four people were still standing there, as scary as you could ever imagine.
They all looked white, like ghosts but they felt familiar to her, almost like she could tell their faces.
Lola tried to scream out for help but only air could come out of her mouth, she tried to move as well but she felt glued to a spot.
“Leave me alone! Who are you, what do you want? You have the wrong apartment” She managed to whisper.
The response that followed was a huge slap that landed right on her cheek.
“Jesusssss” Lola eventually screamed “my face ooo” she cried out.
As if the slap as not enough the four ghostlike creatures brought out strong
Nigerian canes and began to beat Lola all over her body.
The pain was unbearable that Lola passed out and woke up finally by 7am in the morning, she was sore all over and her whole body was swollen and filled red stripes from the lashing she had received the previous night.
She tried to move but her whole body was on fire.
Lola immediately picked up her phone and called her mother.
“Mummy, something happened to me last night”
she said n between sobs as she explained the scary scenario to her Ijebu mother.
“Ah! Won ti get omo mi, they attacked you!”
“Mummy I don’t know, but it felt like I knew the people’s faces mummy”
“Lola be careful with those ladies at your workplace, it’s obvious they hate you and can do anything to bring you down. In the meantime, after work this Friday, come down to Ijebu and meet me let’s know what we will do”.
“Okay mummy, Ese ma. Thank you”
Lola was not going to let anyone’s mischievous plan stop her from going to work.
She dressed even more gallantly to work that day and greeted everyone with a smile.
At a corner she turned and there she saw it, those faces she thought she recognized were not just faces after all, they were her fur female colleagues.
She locked eyes with them, frightened but determined not to show it, they in returned smiled at her with dead eyes, almost like she was the character that never makes it alive in horror movies.
She went to her desk, did the sign of the cross as she realized that this was not the time to form woke and say she didn’t believe in Juju or witchcraft.
She saw and lived it last night in the most gruesome way.
Lola picked up her phone and dialed her mother’s number
“Mami, I will come and see you in Ijebu tomorrow, as early as possible”
She realized that the only way to deal with these witches was to go AURA FOR AURA.
