Hmmmmmm…
It is no news that as a Lagosian, the first thing you need to know how to do is swim, the second thing is to swim, and the third is still to swim. Well. if you’ve not noticed yet, the rainy season is heavily upon us.
The rainy season is not always favourable, because the amount of water we get to swim through to get to work is quite alarming!!!!
You get to work drenched and all your steeze gets thrown out the window, because a whole you, a baddie and more, wearing a rain cap on the road with the overall raincoat…chai!
The thing about this rain is that it always targets the morning hours to start. Immediately it’s 7am, the rain starts to pour heavily, almost like it’s telling us “lie down and sleep jare” But can we do that? absolutely not, because we need to go to work and make some money.
Now the rain might not even be the most annoying part of this whole rainy season, the most annoying part is when you have a roommate or a sibling that’s a remote worker, and you watch them sleep through the rain with zero cares in the world, while you have to wade through Lekki waters. Omo life no just balance.
Another annoying thing about this season is how commercial bus drivers seize the opportunity to hike prices and make us suffer like we called the rain down. A bus that would be 500 Naira on a normal day would go for 1,000 Naira on a rainy day…Hmmmm e no easy
Sometimes, you might escape the morning rain, and you think that yeah, your shoes are safe from the rainwater, and you’ll go home very peacefully…well psyche! because it starts to drop immediately it gets to 4pm…Like why now!
See, I think the rain has a personal vendetta against 9-5 workers this year, but I just can’t prove it
Anyway, dear 9-5ers, I feel your pain this season, but trust me, it’ll be over soon, and you’ll have your life and good shoes back. For now, leave the steeze, wear your raincoats and shower caps in peace.
The season calls for it!!
