Before Netflix, YouTube or other streaming platforms, we had regular TV channels that were giving us premium entertainment back-to-back!

NTA: The OG Station!
NTA was appointment television whether you liked it or not. You would no skipping, no pausing, no “I’ll catch up later”, if you missed it, you missed it, and you’d hear about it in school the next day. Very heartbreaking!
1. Tales by Moonlight
This show deserves its flowers first.
That opening theme alone could summon an entire household to the living room floor in under 10 seconds (If you know, you know)
Tortoise, tricks, and moral lesson. No lies, this show quietly shaped our morals.
2. Cock Crow at Dawn
This particular one was appointment viewing for a different reason. Village drama, agriculture, family tension, all wrapped into one slow-burning soap that somehow had everybody invested.
3. Checkmate
This one brought the glamour and the scandal, rich family politics, betrayal, the works.
This was Nigeria’s answer to soap opera drama long before we had a name for “prestige TV.”
And who could forget NTA network news itself, with that theme music that still lives rent-free in our headseven decades later.
SILVERBIRD TELEVISION
This one had kids running back from school early, just to catch the amazing cartoons they had in store for us. From Avatar to SpongeBob and Dora the explorer.
The KKB show on Saturdays, flat mates and the lineup of amazing cartoon we had to watch on Saturdays.
STV had those top notch shows that just had us glued to our screens!
Good times!
GALAXY TV
This one was our premium telenovela channel. We watched all our Mexican soap operas on this channel, and the most interesting part of this was, if you missed it by 5pm, then you don miss am be that!
You’d either have to get the tea from your siblings or friends, or pray they randomly start showing old episodes.
SUPER SCREEN
This was our indian movie station. After church every Sunday, we always knew that super screen had us covered with premium entertainment!
Super screen definitely had us on lockdown.
AIT
From the theme song alone, you’ll know that our very own Africa Independence television had us covered with all round entertainment.
The most beautiful thing about this era was the fact that we all loved these stations for very different reasons!
