First dates in Lagos come with two real fears which are spending a lot to impress someone you’ve known for two weeks, or picking somewhere so questionable your date starts silently planning their exit.
Here’s the middle ground, spots that look like effort without draining your account.
1.12-inch Baguette, Ikeja GRA
Tucked off Oba Dosumu Street, this place has “we put thought into this” written all over it without the price tag to match. Relaxed, cozy, low-key, suitable for a simple date with your person.
Solid pick if you want to show you have taste on a first-date budget.
2. Any solid suya spot, but sit-down not roadside
Waitttt, hold on. I know you’re thinking how a regular suya spot can work for a date but let me cook first.
a proper suya spot with actual seating (not you standing by the road hoping nobody you know walks past) is one of the most underrated first dates in Lagos.
It’s casual enough that nobody’s performing, cheap enough that you’re not sweating the bill, and it gives you something to do with your hands and mouth besides forced small talk.

3. A calm café
Skip those over expensive spots where they do too much and everyone’s simply there for the photo, not the date.
Go for the smaller, quieter café where you can actually hear each other and the vibe is chill.
4.Lekki Conservation Centre, daytime
Walk-and-talk dates are underrated. The canopy walkway gives you something to do besides stare at each other over a table, plus there’s a natural excuse to end things early if it’s not working (“ah, my legs are tired”), and if it is working, it’s a genuinely nice way to spend a few hours without spending too much.

5.A proper Bukka
You’ll say this girl has come again with her unrealistic spots, but abeg, hear me out first!
Not every good first date needs candles. A solid bukka with real Nigerian food can do the magic sometimes…wait, i need you to walk with me and just picture it.
It is cheap, but real, and weirdly one of the best ways to find things about the person. I believe people tend to communicate better when they taste hot and spicy bukka stew.
